A friend of mine passed on this link from a Google Initiative for me to read. I was quite impressed that they found real data that matters to mobile users, especially figuring that 38% of mobile users use their mobile phones while in the toilet! not many companies would take that serious, but at 38% users, that is important information!

In addition to this and according to the Google Initiative;

40% of mobile users turned to a competitor’s mobile website after a bad mobile experience
23% of mobile users cursed at their phone when a site does not work
81% of mobile users prefer accessing a mobile website than an app to research prices
79% of mobile users prefer mobile websites to mobile apps when researching reviews
63% of mobile users prefer making purchases from a mobile website than an app
81% of mobile users use mobile websites for browsing the web
39% of mobile users use their mobile phones while in the bathroom
48% of mobile users use their mobile phones while eating
39% of mobile users use their mobile phones while reading a magazine or newspaper
13% of mobile users use their mobile phones while having meaningful conversations (how rude!)
79% of mobile users use their mobile phones to assist them while shopping
61% of mobile users use call a business after searching for the business on a mobile device
77% of mobile users use their mobile devices to do searches on the mobile internet
0% of mobile users use their mobile devices during sexual intercourse… (had to add that one!)

Other findings also include that Mobile web searches have increased over 400% in the past year. All of these findings is great data for those businesses that doubt how crucial having a mobile website (not just an app). Would this mean that this is the “fall of the desktop”? Yea, i think so, too. Why chain the active and busy human to a cubical when most of the action can be done outside or in more productive environments?
